Meepo Hurricane Ultra X Review   

The original Meepo Hurricane was first launched in 2021 and quickly became one of the best all-terrain electric skateboards on the market. But the Meepo Hurricane Ultra X took a step further. It is the upgraded version of the Hurricane Ultra, which gives the riders the ability to customize it.

It lets you choose from different options like the deck materials, truck styles, drive systems and wheel types. This customizable option helps you to assemble your ride in the way you want to match your riding style which is a whole new riding experience.

So, does this customization really matter? I would say, yes, it does. For riders, someone might prefer stability for high speeds, or maybe someone might prefer a more responsive feeling for carving. 

This assembling system of this e-skate is quite helpful for future upgrades and adjustments. For example, let’s assume that you purchased a powerful electric skateboard for city commuting purposes, and now you want to try off-road riding.

So now you have to buy a completely new e-board to ride off-terrain, right? But the Meepo Hurricane Ultra X lets you simply swap out the parts as per your need instead of replacing the whole board.

Specifications

Deck

The Meepo Hurricane Ultra X lets you choose from two options. The first one is bamboo plus fiberglass, and the other one is a stiff carbon fiber deck.

Now, these different decks have their benefits. If you want your ride to be flexible and feel more comfortable, then the Hurricane bamboo deck is a good choice. This deck can absorb shocks and reduce vibrations better, which is perfect if you are riding on rough terrains.

You will find a similar longboard riding feeling because of the flexible deck, which also makes your carving easy and more enjoyable.
The concave design of the deck also helps to lock your feet to the board so that you can get more stability and control even when you are riding at higher speeds.

On the other hand, if you want durability and high speed in smooth terrains, I would recommend you go for the carbon fiber deck. 
This T600 Premium Carbon Fiber deck is like a tank, which is incredibly strong and rigid, which makes your ride stable at high speeds. 

The carbon fiber deck is 40 inches long, so it makes sure that you get enough comfort and stability while riding on smooth pavements. It is designed in a certain way that the construction keeps the battery pack safe from external damages like punctures and bending, which are very crucial for long-time use.

The deck is so strong that even if a car runs over it, it won’t cause damage to the board. 

So, I would say that this electric skateboard has the toughest carbon fiber deck on the market today. 

Trucks

The Meepo Hurricane Ultra X is equipped with high-quality Super Carve Trucks, which are designed for both stability and easy turnings. They also have tailor-made bushing so that you can fine-tune the board for a smooth and comfortable ride.

Like the deck, the trucks of this electric skateboard also come with two options to choose from. These are the Double Kingpin (DKP) Trucks and Traditional Kingpin (TKP) Trucks.

The Traditional Kingpin (TKP) Trucks are designed with a full CNC base plate, which is made from T6061 aluminum alloy. It makes the trucks super strong and durable.

If you like speed, you can choose the Traditional Kingpin (TKP) Trucks, which is perfect for smooth terrain rides. It gives you more control and stability over the board when you are riding at your high-speed limit.

On the other hand, if you love to enjoy sharp turns and deep carving, then I recommend you to use the Double Kingpin Trucks (DKP). 

These DKP trucks are equipped with a full CNC baseplate and CNC connectors, which are all crafted from T6061 aluminum alloy. These trucks make the e-board extremely flexible and responsive when you make sharp turns. 

Wheels

The wheels of this electric skateboard are designed to handle different riding conditions, like on smooth city roads as well as off-road terrains.

Meepo gives you the ability to choose three wheel types, and each of them has its benefits.

165mm Tubeless Tires

The 165mm Tubeless tires are perfect for riders who want to ride on city streets and light off-road paths. These tires can absorb small cracks and bumps, which gives you a comfortable ride without the feeling of excessive vibrations.

Since they don’t have any inner tubes, it reduces the risk of getting punctured, and you don’t even have to check the air pressure constantly. 

These tires are usually light in weight but also strong at the same time, so they last longer and have the ability to handle different surfaces while keeping the board light and efficient.

I recommend you use these street wheels if you are planning for everyday riding, like commuting to work or school, as they require less maintenance.

165mm Racing Tires

The 165mm Racing Tires are built for high-speed performance and give you better stability and control on smooth roads. These tires also give you quicker acceleration and can reach your desired top speed in no time.

Not only speed, but it also can make deep carving, which makes your quick turns feel more controlled. So naturally, these tires perform very well on smooth roads where speed and agility matter the most.

175mm Pneumatic Tires

These are air-filled tires, and they are specifically made for riders who encounter everyday rough terrains like gravel, dirt and uneven surfaces.

These are all-terrain tires, and they provide superior shock absorption from bumps and vibrations from cracks. Riding for a long time on rough roads like these can get very tiring and often causes fatigue, but these tires give you a comfortable and cushioned feeling even when you are riding on challenging terrains.

While these pneumatic wheels are exceptionally good at handling rough roads, you will notice a slight reduction in speed compared to the 165mm tires due to their increased rolling resistance.

But apart from this, it is well worth it if you want a smooth and comfortable ride, especially on uneven terrains. 

Motors and speed

The motors of this electric skateboard are one of the most powerful setups in the e-skate world today. 

The Meepo Hurricane Ultra X is equipped with two 3500W motors, which gives the riders a huge amount of power. These motors give the board a smooth acceleration and high torque and are capable of hitting the top speed of an impressive 32 mph (51 km/h).

One important factor to note is that this speed is based on an average-weight rider. If the rider is overweight, like above 85kg, then you might get a bit of a reduction of speed, but in my opinion, this kind of speed is good enough for anyone.

One of the standout features of the Hurricane Ultra X is its customizable drive systems. It simply means you can choose any of the two as per your personal preferences. However, they have their unique benefits.

Gear drive systems are more durable and efficient. These systems use a set of enclosed gears that transfer the power directly to the wheels.

Since there are no belts that need replacements over time, they require less maintenance, and they are slightly louder compared to belt drives.

So, this setup requires less energy loss during the power transfer, and since the gears are enclosed, it is also protected from dust and dirt. If you want to ride on off-road terrains, I think this gear drive will be an excellent choice.

Meepo also has an exclusive buffer protection system, which reduces the impact force during hard acceleration and braking. This protection system helps to protect the gears and increase their lifespan.

In the case of the belt drives, they use a rubber belt that connects the motor pulley to the wheel pulley. This way, it makes your ride feel smoother, and you gain more control over the acceleration and braking.

Belt drive systems are generally known for their hill climbing ability because of the higher torque and are best for riders who live or travel on steep inclines daily. 

The belt drive system provides better heat dissipation so that you can enjoy long rides without any performance issues.

They are also great for riders who love carving, but these drive systems need regular maintenance to keep up the performance.

So, which drive systems should you choose? Well, if you want less maintenance, efficiency and durability in all terrains, then I think gear drive is a better option for you.

But if you want stronger torque, smoother acceleration, and better carving, then belt drives are a good way to go. 

Battery and Range

The Meepo Hurricane Ultra X has a 12S4P Samsung 50S battery with a massive 864Wh capacity, which gives you exceptional performance for long rides.

The large capacity battery allows the e-board to reach a maximum range of 31 miles (50 km) on a single charge, which is truly remarkable. 

But the range also depends on a lot of factors, like the type of terrain you are riding on, the rider’s weight, your riding style, etc. So you must consider these factors.

However, the charging time of the battery takes around 4.4 hours to complete fully due to its high capacity. So, if you are planning to explore long rides, then you should charge it overnight to avoid any interruption rides.

Braking

The braking system is very crucial when you are riding at high speed and in off-road conditions. After all, safety and gaining control while stopping are very important to avoid any accidents.

This Meepo electric skateboard is equipped with a unique braking system that gives you smooth acceleration and braking control over the board.

The LingYi FOC 70 Belt motor controller system makes sure that your braking is smooth and quick without causing any delays. 

The M4S remote also plays a critical role here. It is designed to maintain a strong and steady connection between the rider and the skateboard, even at places where the connection can disrupt signals, like crowded places.

So, the stable connection makes the barking system work consistently without causing any interruptions. 

Moreover, the FOC (Field Oriented Control) mode also makes the braking feel steady and reliable in any situation, even if you are slowing down slowly or making sudden stops during an emergency.

Weight and Portability

The  Meepo Hurricane Ultra X weighs around 19.8 to 22 lbs (9-10 kg) depending on the deck you choose, whether it is the bamboo or carbon fiber deck.

The weight of this powerful board is manageable, but if you add the weight of the wheels (6.6-8.8 lbs or 3-4 kg) and the gear drive kit (3 lbs or 1.4 kg), then it will feel heavy. But if you prioritize performance, then you will understand why it is weighty. 

However, if you are thinking of using it for portability, then in my opinion, it is not a good idea. 

Is the Meepo Hurricane Ultra X Worth It?

So, is the Meepo Hurricane Ultra X really worth your investment? Well, it really depends on what kind of a rider you are.

If you live in hilly areas with off-road terrains like uneven grounds, then I would recommend you go for a bamboo deck with gear drive and 175 mm pneumatic tires. It will give you the best shock absorption and durability at the same time.

But if you love to carve and want smooth acceleration, then I would recommend you go for a bamboo deck with TKP trucks and tubeless tires. These trucks will give you stability at high speeds, and the tubeless tires will keep your ride smooth and grippy.

However, if you like high-speed performance and aggressive riding on asphalt, then I would definitely go with carbon fiber, gear drive, and racing tires. 

Lastly, I want to say that the Hurricane Ultra X is fun to ride and all about customization. But it all depends on your riding style and personal preference.
